This group of standout 11th graders is second to none!

The Junior Resident Assistant Program is a relatively new way for VES students to exercise their emerging leadership skills. In its second year, the Junior Resident Assistant Program has already proven to be another positive touch point for VES students, keeping them actively engaged and feeling connected to the VES community.

Near the end of each school year, faculty members nominate a small group of 10th graders (boarding and day students) who have consistently displayed leadership skills and proven themselves to be positive peer role models during their time at VES—for consideration to become a dormitory Resident Assistants for their 11th grade year. Taking into consideration dorm parent and the Student Life team input, the faculty then determine the Junior RA appointments.

These students will work with dorm parents and counselors to create and foster a tone of friendliness and respect among the residential students and the greater VES community.

Christopher Button, Assistant Head of Student Life, says the Junior RAs primarily work with and mentor the younger students at VES—the sophomores and freshmen who live on dorm. Button explains, “The Junior RAs help monitor study hall and evening activities on dorm. They generate and lead fun activities for all of our students. But most of all, they form relationships. They’re that trusted older friend and positive role model for the younger students.”

Honor. Rigor. Community. Relationships. Individual Attention.
