Student Government

The purpose of the VES student government is to

  • provide a service to the school
  • promote leadership and participation within the student body
  • provide modes of communication between students, faculty and administration
  • encourage the expression of student concerns, opinions and issues
  • expand student involvement in all areas of campus life

Elections for office are held each September. Students from each grade level select five council members to represent them.

All council members meet together each month to discuss school life, issues of concern, ways to promote school unity and individual class fellowship. Each class council also meets at least once a month with their classmates.

A major event spearheaded by student government for all classes is Songfest, and event that encourages students and faculty to create a musical rendition of all aspects of school life.

Freshmen: service to the school through campus beautification
In past years, the freshmen have planted the daffodils growing in front of the chapel, worked in Poe Garden, and on the many planting beds around VES campus.

Sophomores: service to the Lynchburg community
Sophomores have spearheaded many projects including the World Help project “Christmas for Orphans.”

Juniors: plan and raise money for the Finals Dance held in May to honor the senior class
Juniors can be found selling concessions for the majority of our athletic contests and managing the school snack bar, which is open to the students during daily break times.

promote school spirit throughout the school community
Seniors organize and plan pep rallies each school year and inspire random acts of Bishop Spirit throughout our community.
