Learning Resources

The Learning Resources Program helps students achieve their greatest potential and become independent learners by offering tutorial instruction and support to meet the rigorous goals of the VES curriculum.

This program is designed for students who are intellectually capable but whose academic achievement may not reflect that ability. Some students have diagnosed learning disabilities; others may be experiencing general academic difficulties and may benefit from additional help.

Learning Resources teachers focus on skills such as time management, organization, listening, note taking, reading comprehension, writing, and test taking strategies. The environment is warm, supportive, and collaborative.

Sessions are scheduled throughout the academic day as part of the student’s daily schedule. During this time students receive assistance with assignments, projects, and homework.

Highlights of our standard services include:

  • Start-up contact in Admissions and individualized scheduling to ensure a good match
  • An initial assessment of student learning style and teaching of student self-advocacy
  • Matching a student with the Learning Resource teacher who understands the student's skill level and learning style
  • Support sessions are a part of the regular daily schedule
  • Individualized learning goals and a record of daily work /progress
  • Regular contact with classroom teachers and advisors
  • Communication with parents by e-mail or phone

Additional tutoring in some subject areas may be necessary. A fee for this type of service will be charged to the student's account. SAT and ACT testing preparation is also available through the College Counseling Office.
